Missions Focus Week: A Blueprint of Gospel Engagement

What does it look like to engage the people and culture around us with the gospel?

In Acts 17, Paul arrives in Athens and encounters a city filled with idols, competing philosophies, and people searching for something new. Instead of retreating from the culture, Paul sees the spiritual need around him, engages people where they are, connects with what they already understand, and points them to the truth of Jesus.

As we continue through our Neighborhoods to Nations series, we’re reminded that Acts gives us more than stories to read, it gives us a blueprint for gospel engagement. We are called to see people the way Jesus sees them, speak truth with wisdom and compassion, and ultimately summon everyone to Christ.

Paul’s message to Athens reminds us that the gospel begins with God the Creator, reveals our dependence on Him, exposes our sin, calls us to repentance, and points us to Jesus, the One who died, rose again, and will one day judge the world in righteousness. Whether you follow Jesus or are still searching for answers, this message challenges us to consider what we are living for and where we are looking for purpose.
